Luckily, my crystal ball just came back from the cleaners, so I had no
problem realising you're using the tabularx package ;^).

Try this, it may be sufficient for your purposes:

\begin{tabular*}{\textwidth}
{l>{$}l<{$}>{$}l<{$}}
\\
\hline\\
. . .
\\
\hline\\
\end{tabular*}
