Thank you to Philip Ratcliffe and Lars Madsen for your suggestions. Much
appreciated.

By the appearance of the \mathscr{ABC} on page 40 of symbols-a4.pdf I
am sure that \mathscr{L} should do the trick.

I have loaded mathrsfs.sty and and ursfs.fd on the same directory as a
file with the following snippet of latex code:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{mathrsfs}
\begin{document}
$\mathscr{L}$
\end{document}

I get the error message:
 Font U/rsfs/m/n/10=rsfs10 at 10.0pt not loadable: Metric (TFM) file
not found

Any further suggestions ?

Thanks very much

Daniel M Murray
