[texhax] switching cite from [n] to superscript and back?

package overcite (which is nowadays no more than a wrapper around an
option to package cite).  overcite also sorts and compresses citation
lists.

or, if you're already using natbib, package option super (i think it
is).  natbib also has an option sort&compress.
