[texhax] Plain TeX \footnote does not work with \eqalignno

Hi, everyone.

I've been a plain TeX user for one year. 
I realized that the macro \footnote 
does not work when put inside \eqalignno.
That's a shame!
Maybe some TeX-perts can tell me how it could be possible 
to modify the definition which is on page 363 of the TeXbook 
to make it work also in \eqalignno?
