[tex4ht] unicode HTML title

In MikTeX 2.9 under Windows, I'm trying to generate unicode HTML version
of a book with the command

htlatex mybook.tex "xhtml,charset=utf-8" " -cunihtf -utf8" "-cvalidate"

Everything works fine, except the accented letters in the
<title></title> element. The accents simply disappear.

Why does it happen and is there a way to avoid it?

Thanks for any hints,
Jaroslav
