<div>Is this because TexLive is installed with MacOSX and is integrated to other parts of the system? I had a similar issue with postgres, but removed it and then did a home brew install. I really like the cleanliness of the homebrew install, keeping everything

MacTeX is a 'native' Mac wrapper around TeX Live (plus some Mac-specific<br>
extras). As such, you install it like any other Mac program: no brew<br>
