I did! 3 hours later, I have what appears to be a fully-functional TL'2012 installation. I didn't realize before that it required a install-tl file from the tlpretest server; the instructions weren't explicit in that respect(at least, I didn't think so). It compiles my documents, producing pdf files of identical size to TL'2011. Now, if only I could get TeXWorks to accept my TL'2012 installation, but that's a fight for another day!
