It does appear that the TeX Live binaries are built on AIX 4.3 using IBM's compiler and use the AIX 4.3 C library runtime.<br><br>IBM didn't keep backwards compatibility in mind with AIX 5.3.<br><br>Has anyone had any luck compiling TeX (pdftex) on AIX 5.3 using gcc?<br>

I can only surmise something is going wrong with the shared libraries.<br>
I believe the AIX binaries were made on a much older system (AIX 4.3).<br>
