Thanks for the pointer. Now i get the use of updmap and -sys! thanks for that.<br><br>i did as you said. removed the user-specific files completely, re-ran the -sys version as specified<br><br>it said the cfg file unchanged (because minion pro already in there), so not recreated.<br>

please learn what is the difference between updmap and -sys!!!<br>

- do you need your local copies??? Why?<br>
- remove all of ~/.texlive*, or is there something you need?<br>
- call updmap-sys --enable ...<br>
- do NOT call udmap<br>
- then it should work<br>
