Indeed, Computer Modern Roman, Latin Modern Roman, AE and Concrete Roman fonts do work normally, while no other font works for .pdf at all (I tested Utopia, Times, Palatino, Bitstream Charter, New Century Schoolbook, Bookman, Bera and Zapf Chancery).
