Hi,

during build of the documentation of gnuplot I see this

 LaTeX Warning: Reference `steps' on page 43 undefined on input line 3900.

 <figure_histeps.pdf, id=438, 252.945pt x 144.54pt> <use figure_histeps.pdf>
 [43 <./figure_financebars.pdf> <./figure_fsteps.pdf

 pdfTeX warning: pdflatex (file ./figure_fsteps.pdf): PDF inclusion: multiple pdfs with page group included in a single page
 >pdflatex: ../nptl/pthread_mutex_lock.c:427: __pthread_mutex_lock_full: Assertion `INTERNAL_SYSCALL_ERRNO (e, __err) != ESRCH || !robust' failed.
 Aborted (core dumped)

with the side effect that the figures.aux and figures.out are shorten
and lead to followup errors due not closed labels

Werner
