[tex-live] luajittex glibc version and centos 5

I'm having trouble installing texlive on a centos 5 system. I have been
installing the latest version just fine on centos 5 vm's for the past 3
years.

It looks like something in fmtutil has changed that broke the
--no-error-if-no-engine flag.

I am now getting the following output:

fmtutil [INFO]: /opt/texlive/texmf-var/web2c/pdftex/pdfetex.fmt installed.
fmtutil [ERROR]: running `luajittex -ini -jobname=luajittex
-progname=luajittex luatex.ini </dev/null' return status 1
fmtutil [ERROR]: return error due to options --strict
fmtutil [INFO]: Disabled formats: 1
fmtutil [INFO]: Successfully rebuilt formats: 12
fmtutil [INFO]: Failed to build: 1 (luajittex/luajittex)
fmtutil [INFO]: Total formats: 14
fmtutil [INFO]: exiting with status 1
./install-tl: fmtutil-sys --no-error-if-no-engine=luajittex,mfluajit --all
failed:

I used to get this output:

fmtutil [INFO]: /opt/texlive/texmf-var/web2c/pdftex/pdfetex.fmt installed.
fmtutil [ERROR]: running `luajittex -ini -jobname=luajittex
-progname=luajittex luatex.ini </dev/null' return status 1
fmtutil [ERROR]: `luajittex -ini -jobname=luajittex -progname=luajittex
luatex.ini </dev/null' failed (no luajittex.fmt)
fmtutil [INFO]: Disabled formats: 1
fmtutil [INFO]: Successfully rebuilt formats: 12
fmtutil [INFO]: Failed to build: 1 (luajittex/luajittex)
fmtutil [INFO]: Total formats: 14
fmtutil [INFO]: exiting with status 0

I know the root of this is that the glibc version of the shipped luajittex
binary is too new for centos5. It would be great if texlive could build
their linux binaries on an older systems so they would work with older
glibc versions.

At the very least fmtutil needs to be fixed so that it doesn't fail
anymore. I see mention of a '--strict' option in the output, I'm not sure
where that is coming from either.
