[tex-live] tlmgr update -self fails, why?

with

\usepackage[backend=biber,style=philosophy-modern,sorting=nyt]{biblatex}
\addbibresource{myfile.bib}
and
/usr/local/texlive/2013/bin/i386-linux/latex  myfile.tex
/usr/local/texlive/2013/bin/i386-linux/biber  myfile.bcf
/usr/local/texlive/2013/bin/i386-linux/pdflatex  myfile.tex

i get a fine output. That is fine with me.
