Patgen.web is the authoritative (Knuthian) source;
Patgen.ch is required in order to get Patgen.web
to compile an run on a particular system.
In other words, there is exactly one Patgen.web
(other than for historical reasons) but one
Patgen.ch for each system on which it is required
to compile and run.
Patgen.c will have been produced from either Patgen.web
or Patgen.web + Patgen.ch, and is the "C" equivalent
of the Pascal that one would obtain by applying "Tangle"
to Patgen.web + Patgen.ch
Patgen.p is presumably a variant of Patgen.pas, the
normal result of applying "Tangle" to Patgen.web +
Patgen.ch
Thus Patgen.c /might/ be derived from Patgen.p
