I tend not to delete old TUG TLs, so I have a symlink in
<path>/texlive
pointing to the current year. And then use
PATH="/usr/local/texlive/current/bin/x86_64-linux:/usr/local/sbin: ... "
Then it is easy to change LaTeX installation, and no reboot/relogin is
needed.
