[tex-live] Location of recorder file

At the moment there seems to be no consistent behavior regarding the placement of recorder (*.fls) files. pdfTeX places them in the output directory, with "$progname$pid.fls" as file name, while XeTeX puts them in the current directory with "$jobname.fls" as file name. It would be great if these locations would be made consistent or at least documented.
