[tex-live] Missing Ligatures after 'dvips -Ppdf'

    in recent texlive with kpfonts v3.02 all ff-Ligatures are missing in the
    .ps output when the 'Ppdf' option is used with dvips.
    ...
    It appears that this is due to character shifting enabled in config.pdf
    (option "G"). 

I confirm the bug and have removed the G from config.pdf.  I also wrote
a few words in dvips.texi about disrecommending it.

I doubt any old acrobats for which the workaround was intended are still
in use, and in any case, it seems fundamentally wrong to tinker with the
fonts in this way.
