[tex-live] mpost reports 'mpost.mem' not found -- how to generate?

Hi folks. I have installed texlive on a RedHat4 system. I am trying to get
mpost to work. When I run it (on a previously generated .mp file), it
reports the following error:

  This is MetaPost, Version 1.005 (Web2C 7.5.7)
  kpathsea: Running mktexfmt mpost.mem
fmtutil: no info for format `mpost'.
  I can't find the mem file `mpost.mem'!

>From previous threads, I see that somehow I am supposed to run fmtutil to
generate some kind of mpost.mem file. Can someone point me to the applicable
instructions for this step?

Thanks in advance,
--Steve
