Dear Wolfgang,
do you really mean that the guys who spend their whole spare time in
order to make TeX Live possible should go away?  A splendid idea!  

I'm using the installer and tlmgr on several platforms and everything
works perfectly.  Always.  Of course, TeX Live is extremely powerful,
and thus, probably not idiot proof.  Did you consider
