why is this in /usr/local/share/texmf-var and not in
/usr/local/texlive/2007/texmf-var? Is it really TeX Live? E. g. which
updmap-sys are you using? Try

$ which updmap-sys

Maybe it's updmap-sys from another distro? And the warning says that
there is a map entry in pdftex.map like e. g.

cmr10 CMR10 cmr10.pfb

without the "<" sign in front of the font file. TeX Live does not have
such types of non-embedded font files. The warning goes away if you
write:

cmr10 CMR10 <cmr10.pfb

You might check
/usr/local/share/texmf-var/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/pdftex.map on this,
e. g. for the line starting with lcbm2488. Maybe this file pdftex.map
anyway belongs to an old/outdated distribution. Then best might be to
move it away from the place (but keep it somewhere, maybe you still need
the entries for running older documents). Looks like a weird mix of TeX
distros.
