Well, call it as you wish. Are you willing to provide security updates
of pfdTeX in a timely manner and also for old versions? AFAIK this
hasn't happened in the past, not even after such patches were used by
distributors.
And I don't critizise the pdfTeX developers for this. But it would be a
necessity if you want to avoid us "forking".
