Yes, that's it; assuming you have xetex 0.996, you need an updated  
version of one of the setup files, Master/texmf-dist/tex/generic/ 
xetexconfig/unicode-letters.tex. I suspect that's what caused the  
failure for you. The new version is now available in svn (rev. 2644).
