> sounds like letterpaper vs a4. It was just recently fixed in texconfig (2004/10/28) that the formats are regenerated after pdftexconfig.tex is changed by texconfig. Without the fix, it was possible to texconfig pdftex paper letter without any immediate effect... Thomas
