[tex-live] The fonts/{map,enc} location problem (updmap)

then this is (again) a good moment to start thinking about using the same 
library for pdftex and dvips for accessing the same map files, whicm means 
that the format of that file needs to be redefined in a more proper 
database syntax (maybe xml, but it may be to slow on such big files).
