[tex-k] In need of a wizard

Hello,

recently I've run into memory issues when using too many fonts with
MetaPost. Could the following settings be adjusted?

For MetaPost:

  font_max=1000;
  font_mem_size=100000;

For dvitomp:

  max_fonts=1000;
  max_fnums=3000;
  max_widths=100000;

Ideally these settings were configurable via texmf.cnf.

BTW: I was unable to find the latest releases of kpathsea and web2c on
CTAN. Where are they available nowadays?
