Can "in-text" expressions be cured too?

Badly typeset:
The sum of $\pi$ and $e$ is
$\alpha\approx\,$\psPrintValue{Pi Euler add},
and hence $0<\alpha-5<1$.

Want to typeset without \hspace or \makebox:
The sum of $\pi$ and $e$ is
$\alpha\approx\,$\makebox[3.15em][l]{\psPrintValue{Pi Euler add}},
and hence $0<\alpha-5<1$.
