It seems you're using bitmapped fonts. You should use Type 1 fonts.
There is a version of the computer  modern fonts that you can use by
specifying the fontmap to dvips, but I usually prefare to use the standard
Adobe fonts (which are resident in Acrobet reader, so the files are
smaller).  To do this simply add \usepackage{pslatex} to your file.
