[protext] ProText and Windows ME

because of the edge conditions you already found, i'm afraid it won't.

You should note, that ProTeXt is only the name of a collection of single 
pieces of software, which means i.e. there's no different version of 
MiKTeX compared to the one you can download from www.miktex.org.

While ProTeXt is shipped with MiKTeX 2.7 since the beginning of this 
year, there are no much chances that it will run under ME.
