[protext] LaTex for Windows XP Professional x64?

Good afternoon,

I have never used Latex before but I would like to use it for writing up my
thesis and my publications. I am working on Windows XP Professional x64. Is the
new package proTex working on this version of Windows or would you recommand
another package?
