[protext] package missing in the small and large installation of miktex

Of course it does. The package will not be installed by default, thats 
the fact (and you're right Karl, this is a thing i can't control by 
ProTeXt's installation procedure, therefore its concerning to MiKTeX).

Nevertheless i'm still wondering why Jean-Pierre receives a blank page 
at the end, because  MiKTeX should use the EC/PK-Fonts if everything 
else fails. I've tried to rebuild this bearing, based on Jean-Pierre's 
example but on my machine everything went well.

Therefore i would agree with Klaus:

- it would be interesting to know what happens if yap is used as 
Previewer instead of GSView.

- while cm-super will become obsolete sooner or later, i wouldn't put it 
on the list of the default-installed-packages. Last not least do a

\usepackage{lmodern}

in the document's preamble (instead of cm-super), if you want 
CM-Type1-Fonts.
