I sense a contradiction between two experts.

It's a confusion, and the doc needs improving, but fortunately not a
contradiction. protext and TeX Live can, as far as I know, happily
coexist (if they're installed in completely separate directories, of
course). The protext instructions are really warning about previous
miktex installations. So I think you can proceed without wiping out TL.
Thomas, do you agree?

Thanks,

You wrote

This is why I strongly advise not deleting TeX Live until you're happy

But in the proText install instructions it says

"In short, it isn't possible at present to update a
previously-installed version. IN order to avoid version conflicts, it
is best that you completely remove any older TeX installs from your
computer" (http://tug,org/protext)

I sense a contradiction between two experts.

Help?

thanks
