On-screen it can look MUCH worse, at least, on some versions of
acrobat. Also, the file can get a lot bigger.  So, for online
documents you may want to think twice about it.

Illustration programs usually have a convert-to-curves or
create-outlines option, but Ghostscript's epswrite `device' also
converts text to paths.
