[pdftex] Might this be a bug?

Hi all,

I tried this TeX sample with pdftex

Got a strange result:

    This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.11b-2.1 (Web2C 7.5.2)
     (/var/lib/texmf/web2c/cp8bit.tcx)
    (Fatal format file error; I'm stymied)

Do I have a defective installation or might this be a bug in
pft(e)tex?

Should I try to debug it, or is there a URL where I could learn
how to fix my installation?
