[pdftex] otf fonts in pdftex

Yes I ran texhash. Checking further it seems that kpathsea has no rules 
for
finding .otf files, but writet1.c from the pdftex sources is clearly 
checking for
the ".otf" suffix.

Can anyone explain this to me?
