[pdftex] Pdftex and cmap tables

AHi,

I have pdfTeX (Web2C 7.3.7) 3.14159-1.00a-pretest-20011114-ojmw

I would like to know if more recent versions of pdftex can
take advantage of cmap tables in font (and not just use /indexABC
to address a glyph with no postscript name).
