[pdftex] table caption, vertical spacing

It has nothing to do with pdftex, you'll get the same results with
latex/xdvi or latex/dvips.

If the table has n columns and you have n-1 tabs in each row,
everything is ok.

The user's guide doesn't explicitly say that you cannot have less than
n-1 tabs.  But if you use more than n-1 tabs, you get an error
message.  It's probably a bug in LaTeX or I did not read the
documentation carefully enough.
