[pdftex] map files

Hello,

I am trying to get pdftex to include a pfb for a bbold font. I created 
the pfb with textrace. I have gotten pdftex to include the file 
ttfonts.map,

[1{/usr/local/teTeX
/share/texmf.local/pdftex/config/ttfonts.map}]

and pdftex.cfg contains:

% pdftex.map is set up by texmf/dvips/config/updmap
map pdftex.map
% This shows how to add your own map file.
% Remove the comment and adjust the name:
map ttfonts.map

and ttfonts.map contains

bbold12 bbold12 <ttbbold12.pfb

and ttbold12 is available:

[localhost:texmf.local/pdftex/config] root# kpsewhich ttbbold12.pfb
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/fonts/type1/textrace/bbold/ttbbold12.pfb

But, pdflatex does not include bbold12.pfb and instead calls mktexpk to 
generate a bitmap.

What am I doing wrong?
