I'm thinking about an implementation: 
\pdfximage would also have a
        <pdf box spec> with 
        <pdf box spec> --> art|trim|bleed|crop|media
        <pdf box spec> defaults to <art>

It would be nice to easily have access to all the boxes in TeX.
Of course one can always put a image with the needed <pdf box
spec> in a box and measure that...
