<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=utf-8"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space;" class="">Folks,<div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Karl Berry released TeX Live 2015 today. The MacTeX web pages</div><div class="">have just been updated:</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span><a href="http://tug.org/mactex" class="">http://tug.org/mactex</a></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Recall that the links on this site are multiplexed to various mirror sites,</div><div class="">to avoid overwhelming popular sites. It sometimes takes a day or two</div><div class="">for the mirror sites to get the release (and in that case, a download</div><div class="">will produce the 2014 release). So waiting a couple of days might</div><div class="">be advisable.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Dick Koch</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">PS: There was an interesting last minute change. Recall that</div><div class="">/usr/texbin is a link which leads (indirectly) to the TeX binaries for the</div><div class="">active TeX distribution. At the Apple Developer Conference WWDC, which</div><div class="">is also running this week, Apple announced that the next version of</div><div class="">OS X — El Capitan —will not allow users to write to the /usr</div><div class="">directory, even if they have Admin permission. Consequently, it</div><div class="">is necessary for us to change this link. </div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">On all older systems of OS X, the 2015 versions of MacTeX and </div><div class="">Basic TeX create two links pointing to the binaries: </div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>/usr/texbin</div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>/Library/TeX/texbin</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">On El Capitan, only the second link is created.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Currently, GUI apps are configured to look for binaries in /usr/texbin.</div><div class="">These work fine with the new MacTeX-2015 and BasicTeX-2015.</div><div class="">Over the summer, you might like to reconfigure these GUI apps</div><div class="">to use /Library/TeX/texbin. You’ll discover that the apps still work,</div><div class="">even if you switch to an earlier distribution like TeX Live 2012.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">When you upgrade to El Capitan in the fall, reconfiguration</div><div class="">will become mandatory. </div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">The TeX Dist pref pane will work with either link. Indeed</div><div class="">at the moment we know of no other TeX problems with El</div><div class="">Capitan.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div></body></html>
