Adam,

> >>> - I copied my font step-by-step into /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local as
> >>> follows:
> >>> cp *.fd ../texmf-local/tex/latex/gentium
>
> Just out of curiosity, is this the actual command you used? If so, what was your current working directory? In other words, where are the .fd files stored?

I was in a special folder that contained all the files from the TTF-converted gentium font. The folder is included in the ZIP file I sent around with the last email.

> > In the sentence about using `sudo` with `updmap`, for completeness I should have added that you MUST use `sudo -H` when using `updmap-sys`.
>
> As a habit this is probably okay, but not necessary with TL 2012 and later.

As I understand it, I had to use sudo -H because I copied the font to the global texmf-local folder, not within ~/Library.

Regards
Thomas S.
