I switch to Garamond<br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite">(e.g. \font\Garamond=padr8r at 16pt) and the macros do not work anymore, german umlaut (ä,ü,ö) can be typed directly<br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite">and are displayed correctly.
