[OS X TeX] Changing size of tikzfigure figures

I  prefer not to resize tikzpictures but use

\begin{tikzpicture}[scale=.8]

\end{tikzpicture}

This preserves  font sizes and lines widths. And scaling different
tikzpictures with different scales makes font sizes and line widths
inconsistent
