[OS X TeX] TexShop parens enclosure

I used to be able to select a word/phrase in TeXShop and then press "(" and it would include the text in (). It is not doing that any longer; it replaces the text with just "(". In my Library->TeXShop->autocompletion.plist I do have

<string>(#SEL##INS#)</string>

The same behavious holds for {} and [].

Any ideas what might be going on?
