Well, I probably won’t have to wait: I downloaded El Capitan overnight. But … 

The download apparently took about 5.5 hours. When I woke up this morning, the progress bar I was seeing in the App Store app was gone and it was displaying the message “there has been an error.” The install app is in the applications folder, but Get Info tells me that it’s 6.091218246 GB in size, while the App Store lists it at 6.08 GB, and that difference could not be accounted for by a rounding error. So, I’m a little more nervous about this than I would like …
