When I opened TeXShop today, I was asked if I wanted to upgrade to 3.35 and I said yes (this is another machine than the one involved in a post several days ago). I then opened the root file for the document, and after typesetting got the following error:

I’m not sure why, but I think the problem was fixed after I went to my TeX folder in Applications and opened a file named FixMacTeX2013.pkg. At least, it’s typesetting again.

Howdy,

That would have been the first thing I would have suggested doing! Glad it worked!

Apple's major updates don't always play nicely with symbolic links and /usr/texbin is really a symbolic link that ends up pointing to the binaries of the active TeX distribution (controlled by the TeX Distribution Preference Pane in System Preferences --- but broken under Mavericks [hopefully fixed for MacTeX 2014]). The FixMacTeX2013.pkg fixes many of the problems we've seen folks have when updating major OS versions, etc. It's not perfect but it solves several problems that can crop up.

We've still had to do some deep analysis with some problems so it's nice to see that yours was fixed by installing FixMacTeX2013.pkg.

Good Luck,
