[OS X TeX] Why does TeXshop 2.47 lock up when one tries to save as a UTF8 file under Mac OS X 10.6.8?

Some projects are cursed from the beginning, and some weeks should be cancelled.

I angrily yanked the power cord, went away and walked around the building and when I plugged things back in, everything worked after I let things power and load up.
