[OS X TeX] PDFs with gradient mesh applied don't appear

Gary,

AHA.

I put your graphic in a latex file, just as others did, and typeset. Recall that
my main screen is a thunderbolt display, but it is attached to a Retina Display Mac.

When I typeset, the full illustration appeared in the Preview Window, which appeared
on the thunderbolt display. Then I just dragged this window to my Retina Mac.

When I did, the full picture appeared momentarily on the Retina machine,
AND THEN THE SURFACE VANISHED, leaving the remaining pieces as in
your illustration. No doubt it vanished when a redraw was triggered.

When I dragged back to the thunderbolt, the surface was momentarily missing.
Then it appeared, again as a redraw was triggered.

Next I quit TeXShop and selected "Get Info". Then I clicked "Open in Low Resolution"
so TeXShop would magnify images to display on the Retina display, rather than
reimaging. Then when I dragged the window from the thunderbolt to the Retina Mac,
the surface DID NOT VANISH.

So this is a problem with Apple's pdf code for high resolution. Note that TeXShop
has no "high resolution" code. Instead, we are talking about code in PDFKit.

This is clearly a bug in Apple's code. Tomorrow I'll report this bug to Apple.
It would be useful if you could send me a detailed report about how you
created that image, because details bring better responses from Apple's
engineers. I'll send the illustration from your email unless you object.

I just tried the source Victor shows above and I still do not see the blue shape. This is with a fully updated TeX Live 2012 on a retina MBP running a fully updated OS X 10.8.2. Could it be the graphics card in this machine (I don't see it in Preview either since it also uses PDFKit)?
