Which are the rules that make TeX binaries spit out that "Runaway
argument"? Is it only caused by a faulty AUX file? Do the TeX binaries
return different error codes? Do they output different file names or
line numbers that make clear that the AUX file causes the error?
Latexmk works logically and has to conclude, when some exact
information is missing: Does not compute.
I assume it's possible to change your Latexmk files that the AUX file
is deleted when a particular error is encountered. Herb is the
specialist on Latexmk!
