Ah.  Good point.  To see a change to the "paths.d" setup, you have to use a shell that was started after the change was made.

Simpler than logging out and in, or rebooting, is to restart Terminal.  That should suffice.

TeXShop itself shouldn't require access to the PATH variable, since the information is built into its preferences.
