Definitely: No. You need to enable MinionPro.map in order to work with  
the local MinionPro package. And you need to install that MinionPro  
package locally with all its PFB font files etc. (And then a 'sudo  
texhash /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local' is necessary.)

The MnSymbol MAP file fragment supports the use of the free symbols  
only fonts for maths use.

The documentation of MinionPro says: "The MinionPro package  
automatically loads the following packages: textcomp, amsmath, and  
MnSymbol (version 1.4)." It also gently passes any options to the  
other packages.
